Free agent guard/forward Alec Burks has agreed to a one-year deal with the Miami Heat, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday evening. Burks has been in the league since 2011-2012 and spent last year with the New York Knicks. In Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. the Indiana Pacers, Burks stuffed the stat sheet with 26 points, three rebounds, and two assists. He also scored 20 points in Game 4 of the series, adding five rebounds.

The Knicks had a very good season, finishing with a 50-32 overall record, finishing second in the Eastern Conference. New York recently traded for Mikal Bridges, in an effort to reunite him with a number of his former Villanova teammates, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo.

The Miami Heat posted a record of 43-34 for the 2023-2024 campaign, putting them 7th place in the Eastern Conference. They were bounced in the first round of this year’s playoffs with a 4-1 loss to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics went on to become the 2024 NBA Champions. Jimmy Butler has decided that he’ll play out his contract with the Heat next year.

In 742 games thus far, he’s averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds, while shooting 38.3% from three-point range. One of his best seasons came with Golden State, when he averaged 16.1 points and 4.7 rebounds. He also shot 37.5% from three. Burks has averaged over 40% from three at several different points throughout his career, making a name for himself as one of the better long-distance shooters in the league.
