Legendary coach Bill Belichick has a new, football-adjacent project. He’s writing a book.

The Athletic, quoting sources the outlet did not name, first reported the news on Friday. It’s still not clear what Belichick will write about, but you can probably assume his six Super Bowl trophies will be mentioned.

The Patriots and Belichick parted ways earlier this year, with New England promoting Jerod Mayo to head coach. There were a number of head coaching vacancies around the NFL, but Belichick did no official interviews.

The Athletic indicated that Simon & Schuster’s Avid Reader Press likely would be the publisher. It has released other books about the Patriots in the past.

However, a rep for Avid Reader Press declined to comment when The Athletic asked the company about a Bill Belichick book.

No doubt Belichick, 71, can tell an incredible story. He helped lead the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins in 24 seasons in Foxboro. Plus, he had a nice, on-field partnership with Tom Brady, who may be the best quarterback to ever play the game.

“Were there times where you know it wasn’t always eye to eye?” Brady said of Belichick during an interview with ESPN last year. “Very few and far between, actually. I still envision our relationship as positive and always will.”

There were a number of NFL teams that replaced head coaches this off-season. Although Belichick’s name was attached to several teams coaching searches, he never did a formal interview with any of them. Belichick also said he did not want to work full-time for any network, although he has talked with media entities about doing appearances.
