Legendary sportscaster Bob Costas is retiring from calling MLB games, according to a report from The Athletic. The news comes after Costas struggled and was criticized at times during the 2024 playoffs.

Costas called the ALDS between the Yankees and Kansas City Royals earlier this month. As it turns out, that series is the last MLB series Costas will call.

Bob Costas has called MLB games on the MLB Network, as well as TBS. He also contributes during studio shows with the MLB Network.

The 72-year-old has worked with the MLB Network since 2009.

Los Angeles Dodgers beat New York Yankees to win World Series

Elsewhere with Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees Wednesday night to clinch the World Series, taking it 4-1.

Los Angeles began their run against a division rival in the NLDS, taking down the San Diego Padres in five games. Another New York team awaited in the NLCS but despite putting up a good fight, the Mets fell to the Dodgers in six games. Just 16 games were required to take home the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Unsurprisingly, Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was named World Series MVP. His Game 1 walk-off grand slam will be remembered in baseball for a long, long time — producing a historic moment for the sport. Freeman wound up homering in the first four games vs. the Yankees, breaking the record for consecutive games with a home run in the World Series, dating back to his time with Atlanta.

The Dodgers earned a 7-6 win on Wednesday to clinch the World Series title.
