Report: Carolina Panthers to host South Carolina alum Jadeveon Clowney on free agent visit
The Carolina Panthers are reportedly set to host former South Carolina first-rounder Jadeveon Clowney for a free agent visit this week. The defensive end’s one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens expired on Wednesday, making him a free agent yet again.
He’ll explore the option of signing with his home team, according to Mike Garafolo, before potentially looking elsewhere. The Ravens are reportedly still interested in re-signing Clowney if they can make it happen.
Clowney is entering his 11th year in the league. He has also played for the Texans, Seahawks, Titans and Browns so far. The Rock Hill, South Carolina native was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL draft by the Texans.
This season, Clowney had a resurgence as part of the Ravens’ stellar defense. He posted 9.5 sacks, which ties his career-high from the 2017 season. He also had 43 total tackles with two forced fumbles on the way to the postseason. During playoffs, he added another four tackles with one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Carolina is looking for a new edge rusher after trading star Brian Burns to the New York Giants this week. Clowney isn’t the only option they’re bringing in for a visit, either.
Panthers to host Chase Young amid free agency
Amid free agency this week, defensive end Chase Young is also planning to visit the Carolina Panthers, as well as the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints to help decide where he’ll play football in 2024. Young officially becomes a free agent on Wednesday when his one-year stint with the San Francisco comes to an end.

The 49ers did not work out a contract extension on the former first-rounder’s rookie deal, which means he’s free to negotiate with any and all suitors. The visits were first reported by NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
The former Washington Commanders star played in nine games this season for the 49ers after his trade. He first tallied 15 tackles with five sacks for the Commanders before tacking on another 10 tackles with 2.5 sacks for San Francisco. He also had eight tackles with a sack during the 49ers’ postseason run.
