Report: Dallas Cowboys expected to hire Oregon WRs coach Junior Adams for same role

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to hire Junior Adams as their new wide receivers coach, per Todd Archer. Adams is Oregon‘s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. He’s been with the program since 2022.
Oregon’s wide receivers have excelled under Adams’ supervision. This past season, Oregon averaged 279.5 passing yards per game, the 13th-most in the country.
Adams has been a mentor to wide receivers Tez Johnson and Troy Franklin. Johnson is considered one of the best wide receivers entering the 2025 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Franklin just finished his debut campaign in the NFL with 28 catches for 263 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior Adams also has experience coaching wide receivers at Washington, Western Kentucky and Boise State. Adams has no prior coaching experience at the professional level. He would only be the latest addition to Brian Schottenheimer‘s first staff as the Cowboys’ head coach.
On Friday, the Cowboys officially named Bryan Bing and Tiquan Underwood as the newest additions to the staff, joining the team as an assistant defensive line coach and assistant wide receivers coach, respectively.

Schottenheimer will replace Mike McCarthy, who was the Cowboys’ head coach from 2020-24. The Cowboys officially parted ways with McCarthy on Jan. 13, after he failed to lead the team to the playoffs. During McCarthy’s four years at the helm of the organization, the Cowboys posted a 49-35 record and a 1-3 mark in the postseason.

The Cowboys initially hired Schottenheimer as a consultant in 2022. However, he was promoted to offensive coordinator on Feb. 4, 2023. Now, Schottenheimer will take the final step on the staff ladder and have a chance to lead the Cowboys.
The Cowboys averaged 328.4 yards per game this past season under Schottenheimer’s guidance. While the figure still ranked in the top half of the league, the Cowboys were at a disadvantage, with key offensive players like QB Dak Prescott and wide receiver Brandin Cooks missing large chunks of the season due to injury.
A more telling representation of Schottenheimer’s success as offensive coordinator was the Cowboys’ 2023 campaign when they averaged 371.6 yards per game, the fifth-most in the NFL. Now, Schottenheimer will have a chance to build on the promising flashes he’s shown.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is excited to see what Schottenheimer is capable of achieving.
“But what we have is an opportunity to take some of the very best things that are here in place — Mike’s doing — some of those very best things, change some of that, add to it and be better for that,” Jones said at Schottenheimer’s introductory press conference.
