The Dallas Cowboys are planning to sign somebody who is a familiar face for linebacker Micah Parsons. The franchise is expected to sign defensive end Shaka Toney, who once played college football with Micah Parsons during their time together at Penn State. The news was reported on Thursday evening by NFL insider Josina Anderson.

Toney played under Cowboys defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina in Washington.

In 2022, with the Washington Commanders, Toney had 8 tackles in 16 games. On April 21, 2023, Toney was suspended indefinitely by the league for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season. He was reinstated on April 18, 2024, and was released by the team four days later.

During his college football days with Penn State, Toney was named second team All-Big Ten after tallying 41 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks.

Toney isn’t the only signing the team had in the mix on Thursday.

The Cowboys have been busy adding pieces to their defense

The Dallas Cowboys are adding more depth to their defensive line, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

On Thursday, Schefter took to social media to announce that the Cowboys’ll sign former Indianapolis Colts defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad as their training camp gets underway in Oxnard, CA.

Cowboys are signing free-agent defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad to a one-year deal,” said Schefter via X.

Muhammad has been a bit of a journeyman in the NFL after the New Orleans Saints selected him in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After spending one year in New Orleans, the former Miami Hurricanes standout made his first stop in Indianapolis, playing for the Colts for four seasons from 2018 to 2021. Muhammad would spend 2022 in the Windy City as a member of the Chicago Bears before returning to Indianapolis.

After an MRI has confirmed that Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams tore his ACL during practice Sunday, Dallas has wasted little time filling the void caused by his injury.

Williams went down with an apparent left knee injury and had to be carted off the field. He sustained the injury taking part in a special teams drill. NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed what all Cowboys fans that Williams would be lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Williams was gearing up for his third season with the Cowboys, who selected him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. He has suited up in 32 games over the past two seasons, tallying 8.5 sacks, 48 tackles (30 solo), 16 quarterback hits and two forced fumbles. Dallas expected Williams to once again serve as useful depth behind Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence this season.

The Cowboys also have former Western Michigan pass rusher Marshawn Kneeland, who they selected in the second round of this year’s draft to assist in pressuring opposing quarterbacks. Kneeland had a career-high 57 tackles this past season at WMU, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. In four seasons, he had 28.0 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He also blocked a kick as a redshirt sophomore.
