Three major contract extensions loom in front of the Dallas Cowboys before training camp gets underway. CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott are all seeking new deals and have been since the end of last season. None have come to an agreement though, with camp beginning in Oxnard on July 22.

Any of the trio could get done at any moment but the Cowboys are apparently putting Lamb’s higher up the ladder than others. According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Dallas has placed talks with Lamb “ahead” of Prescott at this moment.

“The Cowboys are putting Lamb’s contract extension talks ahead of quarterback Dak Prescott’s,” Watkins said.

Lamb holding out from training camp could certainly be playing a role. Watkins reports the wide receiver would hold out and not show up to Oxnard if the extension is not worked out before the start date. Presumably, something nobody inside of the organization wants.

“He’s embroiled in a contract holdout that’s lasted the entire offseason and the way things are not progressing he won’t report to Oxnard, Calif., next week for training camp,” Watkins said.

As of Saturday, neither Parsons nor Prescott are expected to hold out from training camp. But things can easily change, with nothing being official until the two stars report in a few days.

If/when Dallas gets something done with Lamb, he would become just the latest NFL wide receiver to get a nice payday this offseason. AJ Brown, Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jaylen Waddle have all received fresh deals from their respective teams.

Lamb certainly has the chance to be the highest-paid of them all, something the Cowboys risked by waiting so long to get an extension completed.

He’s fresh off a career-best season, going for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns on 135 receptions, the most in the NFL in 2023. Lamb finished eight games with at least 100 yards, including an incredible 227-yard performance against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

Keeping him in Dallas is one of the more important moves for the present and future of the franchise. Rarely do you see players the caliber of Lamb hit the free agency market.

At some point, Parsons and Prescott will become the main priority for the Cowboys. After all, they play likely the two most important positions in all of football, pass rusher and quarterback.

For now, Lamb is reportedly the main focus, trying to get the wide receiver locked down.
