According to Sham Charania, DeMar DeRozan is finalizing a deal to play with the Sacramento Kings. DeRozan is a huge pickup for the franchise out of free agency, helping them compete in a loaded NBA Western Conference.

“BREAKING: Six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan is finalizing a deal to sign with the Sacramento Kings, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium,” Charania said via X.

Moments later, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski had the full terms of the deal, one that required a sign-and-trade to get over the line. Three teams are included and multiple players are involved.

DeRozan will be heading to Sacramento, while Harrison Barnes is heading back to the Lone Star State but with the San Antonio Spurs. Chicago will get a player in return as well, Chris Duarte, but will also receive two second-round picks and some cash.

“ESPN Sources with @TimBontemps: The Sacramento Kings are agreed on a sign-and-trade that will land DeMar DeRozan on a three-year deal, send Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash to the Chicago Bulls,” Woj said via X.

Contract details have since been reported as too by Chris Haynes of BR. DeRozan will be with the Kings for at least the next three seasons, making a good chunk of guaranteed money during his first two years on the West Coast.

“Sources: DeMar DeRozan’s new deal: 3-year, $76M plus bonuses,” Haynes said via X. “First two years of $59M fully guaranteed. Third year partially guaranteed. Deal was negotiated by Aaron Goodwin.”

Sacramento finished 10 games over .500 this past season but did not get into the playoffs. Just once have they gotten into the postseason since 2006 after consistently competing in the early stages of the century.

The Kings have to feel like the roster has a chance of getting over the hump, getting into the playoffs, and maybe even winning a series. DeRozan could be the piece to help them get there due to experience and playoff experience.

Last season with Chicago, DeRozan averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point line.

As for Barnes, he will be joining San Antonio as they hope to take another step forward as well. Year Two of Victor Wembanyama is hoped to be a big one and Barnes brings a veteran presence to the roster they sought.
