The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Tyler Santucci as their new linebacker coach, according to a report on Saturday from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Santucci has been the defensive coordinator for Duke (2023) and Georgia Tech (2024) recently. He also received interest from NFL teams in the past.

Now, he’ll head to Baltimore to join John Harbaugh and his staff.

Santucci has a pretty extensive history at the college football level of coaching, but this will be his first journey into the National Football League. He worked with Texas A&M as their linebackers coach for two years (2020-2022) and even acted as their Co-Defensive Coordinator in 2022. Before joining Texas A&M, Santucci made a variety of stops across the college football landscape, including Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Texas State, and Stony Brook.

Not only did Santucci play for four years at Stony Brook (2006-2009), but he also spent from 2010-2013 on their coaching staff. The first two years, he served as a graduate assistant, working with the linebackers and then the defensive line. In 2012, he moved onto coaching the safeties. And in 2013, he worked with their defensive line.

A highly decorated college player for the Seawolves, Santucci racked up 284 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, and five interceptions during his time there. During his impressive career, he earned second team All-Big South honors in 2008, first team All-Big South honors in 2009, and second team All-American honors in 2009. In addition, he also was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

Georgia Tech ranked 30th in the nation in rushing defense this season, allowing 122.2 yards per outing on the ground.

The Baltimore Ravens finished with a 12-5 overall record this year in the regular season, making it all the way to the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs, before they lost 27-25 in a heartbreaker to the Buffalo Bills. The Ravens defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Round 28-14. Baltimore was fueled for much of the season by their two superstars, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

Jackson threw for over 4,000 passing yards and Henry rushed for over 1,900 rushing yards, showcasing the tandem as one of the league’s best quarterback-running back combinations. Baltimore had some critical turnovers and drops that ended up hurting them in the end against Buffalo in the playoffs, but they still had a remarkably successful season.
