Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was discharged from a Jacksonville-area hospital this morning, per Adam Schefter. He has now been cleared to return to Kansas City.

Brown suffered a shoulder injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars during a preseason game on Saturday night. That forced him to go to the hospital where it was later discovered that he had suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation.

Initially, the Kansas City Chiefs social media listed Brown as “questionable” to return. He, clearly, did not return to the game. For his own part, Brown took to social media where he wrote, “God makes no mistakes.”

The sternoclavicular joint is an important one that connects the collarbone to the breastbone at the base of the neck. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid would describe it as being similar to the injury suffered by Tyreek Hill in 2019 that forced him to miss four games. In Brown’s case, the injury is to his left shoulder and came after landing with weight on it.

The Kansas City Chiefs added Marquise Brown to the roster this offseason on a one-year $11 million deal. For Kansas City, the hope was that he could help fix an apparent weakness at wide receiver. That’s going to be difficult to do, however, if one of their major offseason pickups is going to miss time or could be playing through an injury.

Of course, Kansas City has Patrick Mahomes at quarterback and he’s been able to overcome a weakness at the wide receiver position in the past. With him at the helm, Kansas City has won the last two Super Bowls in a row. In both cases, wide receivers were a concern for the team throughout the season that having the NFL’s top performing quarterback helped them to overcome.

For now, there isn’t an update on when Hollywood Brown is going to be able to get back to football activity.

Brown was a first round pick out of Oklahoma in the 2019 NFL Draft. He began his career with the Baltimore Ravens before going to the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons. Now, he’s landed in Kansas City.

For his career, Brown has played in 72 games. He has 313 career receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns. That’s 11.6 yards per reception.

The NFL season starts for Kansas City on September 5th. There, the Chiefs will take on the Baltimore Ravens at home.
