The Buffalo Bills have finalized a deal to make Jahmile Addae their next cornerbacks coach, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Addae has spent the past two seasons working as the secondary coach for the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami ranked ninth in the ACC in passing defense this past season while averaging 0.9 interceptions per game. The Hurricanes finished the year 7-6 and lost in the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers.

Prior to joining Miami, Addae was the defensive backs coach at Georgia in 2021 for their national championship team. This will mark his first NFL job after 17 years of experience as an assistant at the college level.

Addae played college football at West Virginia, where he was a two-time All-Big East defensive back. He got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineers in 2007 before moving on to become a graduate assistant at Michigan (2008-09).

From there, Addae was able to landed a job as director of player development at Cincinnati in 2010. He later became the running backs coach for the Bearcats for two seasons. Addae went on to enjoy stints at Arizona (2013-17) and Minnesota (2018) before returning to WVU in 2019 as the secondary coach. He added the title of co-defensive coordinator for the 2020 season.

Jahmile Addae is set to take over a Bills secondary that tied for fourth in the NFL with 17 interceptions this past season. Buffalo also ranked sixth in passing defense to average 216.2 air yards allowed per game.

The Bills finished this past past season 11-6 and lost in the divisional round of the playoffs for the third straight season. With the addition of Addae, they’ll aim to make it further in 2024.

Addae is the second assistant coach to leave Miami this offseason. He joins running backs coach Tim Harris Jr., who left to become the offensive coordinator at UCF. The Hurricanes are expected to hire former South Florida running game coordinator Matt Merritt to replace Harris.

Alonzo Highsmith leaving Miami to join New England Patriots

Alonzo Highsmith is leaving Miami, his beloved alma mater, for a front-office job with the Patriots. For the former Hurricanes legend, NFL actually is home.

Multiple outlets, including the South Florida Sun Sentinel, reported that Highsmith left his job as general manager for personnel for the Hurricanes football team. He will work a similar job with the Patriots, helping to evaluate personnel for new coach Jered Mayo.

Highsmith worked for two dozen years in the front offices for the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks. He specifically was a VP of player personnel for the Browns.

Highsmith is 58. He starred as a fullback for the Hurricanes from 1983 through 1986. The old Houston Oilers selected Highsmith with the third pick of the 1987 NFL Draft. He also played for the Cowboys and Bucs.
