Joe Burrow scheduled to undergo appendix surgery, will miss practice time, per reports
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, as reported by Ian Rapaport. The procedure will force Burrow to miss practice time.
This comes as the Bengals are focusing on giving Joe Burrow a contract extension. The size of that extension remains to be seen, but if Kyler Murray’s new contract with the Arizona Cardinals can give any insight into it, he’s going to receive a massive deal. Murray’s contract is worth $230 million. That deal goes through 2028 and includes $105 million in guaranteed money
“I can tell you that we couldn’t be happier with Joe Burrow,” Bengals team president Mike Brown said. “He’s everything you would wish for, especially for a quarterback in Cincinnati. Our whole focus is going to be on keeping him here.”
An appendix surgery shouldn’t create long-term problems for Joe Burrow. An appendectomy is a relatively common procedure to remove the appendix. Most patients are able to leave the hospital within 48 hours and get back to normal activities within a few weeks. However, playing quarterback in the NFL isn’t a normal activity for most people and everyone recovers from procedures at their own pace.

Joe Burrow has always been a tough player. While playing for LSU in the Fiesta Bowl against UCF, Burrow took a blindside shot from UCF’s Joey Connors. He popped up and used it as motivation to win the game.
The NFL has taken note of his toughness too. Following the Bengals’ playoff win over the Tennessee Titans, coaches praised Joe Burrow for his toughness.
“I hate to compare anybody to Brady, but he might be the closest thing,” one anonymous NFL coach said. “What, did he take nine sacks in that playoff game [against Tennessee]? Didn’t flinch. Hung in there. He’s just got a toughness about him and the ability to think through a game.”
