For an incident dating back to August, Kurt Busch has pleaded guilty to Driving While Impaired, and had other charges dropped. Earlier this year, the retired NASCAR driver acknowledged the original incident on social media, accepting responsibility for his actions.

While retired from driving in NASCAR, Kurt Busch still has a strong working relationship with 23XI Racing, as well as being an ambassador for Monster Energy. Neither the team nor brand has released comment on the situation.

Busch was charged with DWI. He had charges for reckless driving and speeding dropped. The driver received a 60-day suspended sentence for the next 12 months. He will be on unsupervised probation during that time, according to TMZ.

Kurt Busch also has community service hours tied to his sentence. He must complete 24 hours on top of paying a community service fee. Busch will forfeit his driver’s license as part of the guilty plea. He can apply for limited driving privileges in the near future.

The original incident occurred on August 13 around 11:40 PM. According to law enforcement, Busch was pulled over for speeding. He was reportedly going 63 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. His breathalyzer test showed a BAC of 0.17.

At the time of his arrest, Busch released a statement.

“I’m very disappointed in myself and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and to my fans,” Busch said. “I will work with the authorities to rectify the situation and work with the county to make it a safer place in the future.”

Kurt Busch has been traveling

If you keep up with Kurt Busch online, he has been spending his retirement basically doing whatever he wants. He has been at F1 races, the motorcycle races on the Isle of Man, and at a number of other events.

Unforutnately, Busch’s NASCAR career was cut short in 2022. Prior to NASCAR making the Next Gen car less stiff in rear-end impacts, Busch took a hard hit at Pocono in practice. Since then, complications from his concussion-like injury forced him out of racing.

There is a chance that he could be cleared for certain races in the future. However, the 2004 NASCAR champion seems to be happy with living his life outside of the sport for the moment. He also shows up to quite a few Cup Series races, too.

Kurt Busch is a fan-favorite figure in the sport. Hopefully, he will learn from his recent legal troubles and come out on the other side of things with some growth and learning.
