Report: Lions CB Emmanuel Moseley tears right ACL in first game back from left ACL tear
Lions cornerback Emmanuel Moseley has endured a dreadful two-year run. The Detroit defensive back reportedly suffered a torn ACL in his first game since returning from the same injury a year ago.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Moseley’s injury on Monday. The cornerback suffered a torn left ACL in Sunday’s game against the Panthers. It was the first time he stepped on the field since sustaining a left ACL tear in Week 5 last year.
Assuming Schefter’s report is accurate, it would mark the end of Moseley’s 2023 season.
After Sunday’s game, head coach Dan Campbell didn’t have much information on the injury.
“Yeah, Moseley we’ll know more tomorrow,” Campbell said. “I know on tape or the replay it certainly didn’t look good, but we won’t know a ton until we get the MRI, which will be tomorrow afternoon.”
Moseley joined the Lions during the offseason. He spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. He played 45 games for the Niners, making 33 starts. Moseley tallied 162 tackles, 33 passes defended and four interceptions while in the Bay Area.
The former Tennessee standout appeared in five games for the 49ers last season before suffering the ACL injury. He has not played a complete season since 2019, his second year in the league.
Detroit defeated Carolina 42-24 to improve to 4-1 on the year. The Lions currently sit atop the NFC North standings, owning a 1.5-game lead on the Packers (2-2).

Lions starting 2023 strong
Entering the regular season, Detroit was the betting favorite to win the division. It’s still early, but through five weeks, Campbell has the Lions prepared to claim their first NFC North title.
The Lions last won a division title in 1993, when they played in the NFC Central. Detroit also seeks its first playoff appearance since 2016.
Detroit opened the year with an impressive 21-20 victory over Kansas City, the defending Super Bowl champion. The Lions suffered a disappointing 37-31 overtime loss to Seattle in Week 2 but have ripped off three straight wins.
During this winning streak, Detroit has defeated Atlanta (20-6), Green Bay (34-20) and Carolina (42-24). Next up, the Lions will take on Tampa Bay, which is off to a 3-1 start under quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Kickoff between the Lions and Buccaneers is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
