Report: Matt Mills taken to hospital after fiery wreck at Homestead-Miami
Following a rough crash at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Matt Mills has been taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The NASCAR Truck Series driver was put into the wall by Connor Jones during today’s race.
After hitting the outside wall, Matt Mills’ truck caught on fire. There was a lot of smoke in the vehicle and it did take Mills a while to exit on his own power. Afterward, he looked shaken up.
Mills received fluids at the infield care center. He has since been taken to a nearby facility, according to Jamie Little on the FS1 broadcast.
Mills, who races full-time for Niece Motorsports, took a rough hit. Shortly after Connor Jones sent him up into the wall, the No. 66 driver was on the radio losing his mind. He more or less said he was tired of being run over. So he ran Mills over in response, it appears?
Drivers can get upset. Emotions run high when you’re going that fast for that many laps, it happens. Those emotions have to be controlled, though. Jones was held for two laps as punishment for the wreck and likely his comments on the radio.

Matt Mills wrecked by Connor Jones at Homestead
Connor Jones didn’t like the way he was being raced and took matters into his own hands. For that, NASCAR took matters into their own hands. Jones was held for two laps, and is lucky he wasn’t told to go to the garage.
This wreck combined with his radio chatter resulted in the penalty.
“I’m getting f***ing run over, left and f***ing right. I’m done.,” Jones was heard saying. That will earn you a seat on pit road.
A young driver making an immature move. That is what this amounts to. Connor Jones is talented and he has a future in this sport, but not if he keeps wrecking drivers like this. These are not the actions team owners want to see out of their drivers. Eventually, it comes back to bite you.
Hopefully, Matt Mills is fine and this is all precautionary. Smoke inhalation is no joke and should be taken seriously. Not to mention the hard impact that Mills took that led to the fire. NASCAR should have a long conversation with Jones after this.
