Report: Miami Marlins facing lawsuit after fan allegedly slipped on dog urine during ‘Bark at the Park’ event

A baseball fan is suing the Miami Marlins and the city of Miami, according to Andy Slater. She is claiming she slipped on dog urine during the “Bark at the Park” event last year. Per Slater, she’s looking for $50,000 and a jury trial.
At the special event, fans were allowed to bring their dogs to the Marlins’ stadium. The MLB has a waiver on its website for fans to participate in the event. The waiver includes a lengthy list of agreements that participants seemingly had to agree with before bringing their dog to the event.
“I acknowledge that the activities of the Event can be dangerous and could involve the risk of serious injury, death, or damage to me or my Dog,” the waiver reads. “I acknowledge that injuries received may be compounded or increased by negligent rescue operations or procedures of the Releasees.
“I understand that my actions and the actions of my Dog during the Event may result in injuries and damages to myself and others, whether anticipated or unanticipated or foreseeable or unforeseeable, including to my Dog as well as dogs of others, by participating in the Event.
“I understand that I assume the risk and responsibility for any and all risks associated with participating in the Event, including, but not limited to, injury, death, and property damage to myself, my Dog, or otherwise, as well as a significant risk of contracting communicable diseases, illnesses and/or conditions, including, without limitation, Communicable Disease (as defined below) (collectively, ‘Illnesses’).”

Slater didn’t report whether or not the fan attempting to sue the Marlins and Miami signed this waiver before the accident occurred. The lawsuit is just one of the many issues that the Marlins have to worry about.
The Marlins finished last season with a 62-100 record and placed fifth in the NL East. It was a major step backward for the organization after going 84-78 in the 2022-23 season and reaching the playoffs.
The Marlins will look to start fresh in the upcoming season as Clayton McCullough makes his debut as the team’s manager. It is his first time serving as a manager for an MLB team. McCullough is excited for the opportunity.
“As I got a chance to talk with Peter (Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix) about his vision for what was going to be going on here,” McCullough said, “the importance of culture, the importance of people — certainly, winning — it felt right.”
