The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series schedule will go international. NASCAR has scheduled a date in Mexico City and that is going to be a wild ride. The sport has raced in Mexico in the past, but only the Xfinity Series.
There will be a points-paying race in Mexico City in 2025. It is the first Cup race for points outside of the United States in 67 years. Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports that the deal is being finalized.
The official news could be announced as soon as Tuesday at a press conference in Mexico City.
The NASCAR Cup Series has had its eyes on an international race. Officials were hoping to have a race in Montreal this season. However, those plans fell through before anything could be finalized. It feels like this Mexico City race is going to happen.
With the NASCAR Mexico Series doing well, it is no surprise that the Cup Series would go south of the border. The Cup and Mexico Series shared a weekend at the LA Coliseum to start the year.
According to Bianchi, the race is set to be held at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. It will be on the road course. This is the same circuit that hosts F1 during the season. It won’t just be the Cup Series, either. The Xfinity Series will also be part of the weekend’s festivities.

The Xfinity race is tentatively scheduled for June 14 with the Cup Series race on June 15.
NASCAR heading back to Mexico City
This is a good move for NASCAR. Going international, and going into a country where you have a series already operating is a good idea. To do it on a track that hosts Formula One gives NASCAR credibility as well.
If NASCAR races at COTA and Mexico City, then it will share two tracks with F1. The Clash is moving to Bowman Gray, North Wilkesboro is keeping the All-Star Race. This is a well-balanced schedule, at least it is shaping up to be, for 2025.
So, would you go to Mexico to watch the Cup Series? How do you expect the crowd to be and the racing? As the sport continues to attract attention internationally, moves like this make more sense.
