According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the New York Jets and Tyrod Taylor have struck a deal for him to be the team’s backup quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is still recovering from his Achilles injury but is expected to be ready for the 2024 season.

But if there is another setback or injury to Rodgers, last year proved the Jets need to be ready. Taylor provides a bit of experience options from last season did not have.

“The #Jets made clear after last season they wanted to add an experienced backup QB,” Pelissero said via X. “They get one in Tyrod Taylor, who has 58 career starts, including five last season for the #Giants.”

Taylor will not have to go too far, playing for the New York Giants last season. He earned five starts while playing in 11 games, recording 1,341 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions on 180 attempts.

Rodgers went down on the first drive of the season, ending what was an offseason full of anticipation for the Jets. While there were questions of a potential return, Rodgers watched from the sidelines while three other guys got starting opportunities. Zach Wilson had 11 starts but struggled and won just four games.

New York will have to feel a lot more confident in the situation moving forward with Taylor. While the plan is to keep Rodgers on the field and healthy, being prepared can make a huge difference.
