Report: New York Jets informed Aaron Rodgers they are 'moving on' from him at QB

The New York Jets have informed Aaron Rodgers that they are “moving on” from him at quarterback, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.
It remains to be seen whether the team will cut him or trade him, but it appears the two parties’ split is imminent.
“Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey this week to meet with the Jets about his future. He met with the head coach and the GM, only to be told that they want to move on from him,” Glazer reported. “Now, it depends if Aaron wants to play or not. Do they trade him? Do they cut him?
“But the fact that Aaron actually used his own plane to fly to fly there and find out the decision probably means he wants to play another year. It’s just not going to be for the Jets.”
Glazer’s report expands on what NFL insider Adam Schefter said during NFL Countdown on Sunday morning, noting that it “would not surprise a lot of people if Rogers wanted to move on and go elsewhere.”
The Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets in 2023, but Rodgers missed nearly all of the 2023 season due to a torn Achilles. He returned in 2024 and led the Jets to a 5-12 record despite throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Of course, Rodgers has put together a Hall of Fame career, finishing up his 20th NFL season following the 2024 campaign. Over that time, the veteran quarterback has thrown for over 62,000 yards with 503 touchdowns, winning four MVP awards and a Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers, as well.
Brett Favre wants Aaron Rodgers to keep playing
After the 2024 season finale, Rodgers reflected on his two years with the Jets.
“I would have a big hole inside me that only this, these two years, could have filled,” Rodgers said, per the Jets’ official website. “So when I say these have been the best two years of my life, I don’t just mean those relationships off the field. There’s been a lot of really special things that have happened. But if I hadn’t come to New York, these relationships that are really important to me, many of which are going to last for a long, long time, never would have happened, and I would have really missed out on meeting some really special people.”
When Rodgers began his career as an NFL QB, he was the backup for Hall of Famer Brett Favre. While speaking with TMZ Sports, Favre said Rodgers should return to football in 2025.
“If you want to play, if there’s anything in your gut that’s telling you, man, I think I could go one more year then I would say do it,” Favre told TMZ, via Pro Football Talk. “Because you can’t go back. Once you leave, that’s it. You move on. If there’s any little inkling in him that he wants to play and prove that he can still do it at a high level I would say do it.”
