Report: Packers TE Tyler Davis suffered torn ACL in preseason game against Bengals
The Packers received some bad news as it pertains to tight end Tyler Davis. The fourth-year veteran suffered a torn ACL in Friday night’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on Saturday morning. Head coach Matt LaFleur said, “My heart hurts for him … we’re gonna miss him” following Friday’s contest. At the time, LaFleur called the injury “pretty significant.”
Davis caught two passes for nine yards and a touchdown in Green Bay’s 36-19 win over Cincinnati. He’s also a core member of the special teams unit.
Davis was a sixth-round selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent one season with the team before landing with the Packers in 2021.
The tight end has caught four passes in each season with Green Bay, totaling eight receptions for 65 yards. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to add to that total in 2023.
Davis played college football at UConn from 2015-18 before transferring to Georgia Tech for his final year in 2019. For his career, the tight end totaled 648 yards and eight touchdowns on 64 receptions. His most productive year came in 2018, hauling in 22 catches for 237 yards and six touchdowns.
Packers OT Luke Tenuta carted off field with injury
It was a rough night on the injury front for the Packers. Offensive tackle Luke Tenuta was carted off the field in third quarter after suffering an ankle injury.

Running back Patrick Taylor rolled onto the back of Tenuta’s leg with 13:21 left in the third quarter. He entered the game in place of Caleb Jones, who also left the game with an injury.
Tenuta played for the Packers last year after starting the year with the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts. He was a sixth-round pick of the Bills in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech.
Entering the 2023 season, Tenuta appeared in three NFL games but has yet to make a start.
So, while the Packers won Friday night’s preseason game against the Bengals, it wasn’t exactly the best night. Green Bay has two preseason contests remaining on the schedule. It will host the New England Patriots on Saturday, Aug. 19 and the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The Packers open the 2023 regular season at Soldier Field against NFC North rival Chicago on Sunday, Sept. 10.
