Report: Penn State police investigating Jason Kelce phone smashing, homophobic slur incident
Penn State police are investigating an altercation between Jason Kelce and a fan that occurred before Saturday’s game against Ohio State, TMZ reported Monday.
Kelce, who was a guest on ESPN’s College GameDay that morning, was walking through a crowd when one man shouted a homophobic slur about his brother, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is dating pop star Taylor Swift.
“Hey, Kelce, how does it feel that your brother is a f****t for dating Taylor Swift?” the man said.
Kelce was not having any of that, as he turned around and walked toward the man, who was filming him. He then grabbed his phone and threw it hard onto the ground. Other people who were recording on their phones in the area captured the altercation.
Additional footage caught Kelce then turning to the man and saying, “Who’s the f****t now?”
A Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce announced his retirement after the 2023 season. He has since gone on to have a role on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown as he looks to make the transition into television analyst.

It’s unclear whether this will affect his role with the network, as TMZ also reported that ESPN declined to comment on the matter. For now, we’ll await the results of the investigation to see what comes of it.
Jason Kelce apologizes for phone-smashing incident on Monday Night Countdown
Jason Kelce opened up ESPN‘s “Monday Night Countdown” by issuing an apology for the phone-smashing incident which took place this past Saturday on the campus of Penn State University.
“I think everybody’s seen on social media everything that took place this week,” Kelce said. “I’m not happy with everything that took place. I’m not proud of it and in a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that that’s a productive thing. I really don’t. I don’t think that it leads to discourse and is the right the way to go about things. In that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.
“Bottom line is, I try to live my life by the Golden Rule. That’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I’m gonna keep doing that moving forward even though I fell short this week. I’m gonna do that moving forward and continue to do that.”
