Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, FL, according to the Broward County Sheriff. Reports indicate two charges are being made against Judkins — battery and domestic violence.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Judkins was still in jail as of Saturday night and scheduled to have his initial court appearance Sunday morning, according to court records.

Judkins just wrapped up his collegiate career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he won a National Championship alongside fellow star running back TreVeyon Henderson. In one season in Columbus, Judkins recorded 1,060 rush yards and 14 touchdowns.

Ole Miss is where Judkins began his career, though. He broke onto the scene as a true freshman during the 2022 season with 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns on 247 attempts. A three-star recruit coming out of high school, head coach Lane Kiffin found a gem he instantly cashed in on.

Two seasons were spent in Oxford before entering the NCAA transfer portal. The rest is history, finding the same amount of success at Ohio State. Judkins did not even have to move too far to get his NFL career started, getting drafted by the Browns with the No. 36 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

However, as the case with most second-round selections, Judkins has yet to sign his deal. Only two of the 30 early Day 2 selections have come to an agreement with their respective team. Potentially something else to watch now that Judkins has been arrested.

There was hope Judkins would be able to hit the ground running. Running backs are known to make early impressions, especially if a role is available. Cleveland is looking for any kind of offensive spark and Judkins entered the NFL Draft as one of the more proven backs available.

Instead, there are now some off-the-field issues to deal with. No further information on the arrest has been released. Training camp is not too far away, with the first day scheduled for Thursday, July 25. Preseason games will begin not too long after on Aug. 8. Usually, a stage where rookies can really flash their talent.

Sept. 7 is when the regular season will begin for Cleveland and it’s a big one for the Browns. An AFC North foe, the Cincinnati Bengals, will come to Huntington Bank Field for a Week 1 divisional matchup.
