Report: NFL contender plans to sign former USC running back Ronald Jones
The Chiefs may have traded away Tyreek Hill earlier this week, but they’re attempting to reshape their offense with interesting talents. After signing former Packers receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kansas City is bringing former Buccaneers running Ronald Jones into the fold.
On Saturday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted the Chiefs plan to sign the former USC star.
“The #Chiefs plan to sign former #Bucs RB Ronald Jones to a one-year deal, per source,” tweeted Pelissero. “Jones had two seasons with 1,000 yards from scrimmage in Tampa Bay and should have ample opportunities in KC.”
Over the course of his NFL career, Jones’ impressive talent has been on display. However, the running back took a backseat to former LSU star Leonard Fournette after his exodus from the Jacksonville Jaguars to Tampa Bay. Since, it’s been tough for Jones to gain a consistent workload.
In Kansas City, Jones will go from one talented offense to another. However, it’s possible the former Tampa Bay ball carrier can carve out a more sizable role. At his next stop, Jones will be competing with backs like Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrell Williams for carries.
Nevertheless, Ronald Jones is going from the team he won a Super Bowl with to the team they defeated. In that game, Jones carried the ball 12 times for 61 yards. He’ll look to contribute to getting Kansas City another Lombardi, instead of stopping them in 2022.

Moreover, the Chiefs shook up the NFL earlier this week with the latest blockbuster trade of an insane off-season. First reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, aforementioned superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill was dealt to the Miami Dolphins.
“Here it is: The #Chiefs are trading six-time Pro Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to the #Dolphins, sources tell me and @TomPelissero,” tweeted Rapoport. “The return is a first-round pick and more, while Hill gets a contract extension that puts him among the highest paid WRs in the NFL.

Additionally, Pelissero added that the Dolphins aren’t wasting any time — extending Hill immediately, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
“The #Dolphins are signing Tyreek Hill to a three-year, $75 million extension as part of the trade from the #Chiefs, per source,” tweeted Pelissero. “So he’s now under contract through the 2025 season at $23.8M per year overall. By most metrics, the NFL’s new highest-paid receiver.”
Throughout his career, Hill has used his blazing-speed to evolve into one of the league’s top wide receivers. Possessing an innate connection with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the duo was unstoppable at times.
In six seasons in Kansas City, Hill has accumulated 479 receptions, 6630 receiving yards and 56 receiving touchdowns. Additionally, Hill has been a weapon in the run game and on special teams. He added 719 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, while scoring four touchdowns on special teams.
Now paid, Hill will be looking to recreate the immense success he’s enjoyed with the Chiefs in Miami. Meanwhile, Kansas City will hope that the combination of tight end Travis Kelce, and a receiving corps led by newly-signed Juju Smith-Schuster can replicate Hill’s impact.
