Report: Scoot Henderson gaining 'serious momentum' to be No. 2 pick in NBA Draft over Brandon Miller
Victor Wembanyama has long been penciled in as the No. 1 overall pick to the Spurs, with Alabama’s Brandon Miller getting most of the publicity and gossip as the likely No. 2 pick for the Charlotte Hornets. However, as draft day arrived, just hours before the event, rumors began swirling that Charlotte is considering drafting Scoot Henderson at No. 2 instead of Miller. That repot came from NBA insider Shams Charania, who tweeted out Thursday afternoon that Henderson was gaining traction as the second overall selection.
Here was that tweet:
“Sources: Scoot Henderson is gaining serious momentum at No. 2 with the Charlotte Hornets in tonight’s NBA draft. Hornets have been torn over the last week between Henderson and Brandon Miller. Team has final meetings today to settle on decision.”
After the first pick, it’s now anyone’s guess how the Hornets and every team after them will pick. Not even Las Vegas knows who’s going to be the name read off by Adam Silver at pick No. 2. Caesars Sportsbook and most other casinos slotted Miller as the heavy favorite for most of the pre-draft process and had him at an overwhelming -900 to go second as of Wednesday evening, according to this graphic from ESPN:
Now, the tables may have turned and it’s some drama at the top of the 2023 NBA Draft after all! Once the Spurs pick Wemby, we’re off to the races, folks. Let the pandemonium commence.
Reports had previously said Miller would be pick for Charlotte
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, just two days ago, Alabama‘s Brandon Miller was “the focus” of the Charlotte Hornets at No. 2 overall ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft.

“Alabama’s Brandon Miller further solidified his standing as Charlotte’s choice at No. 2 with a workout and meetings he had in Charlotte,” Wojnarowski said on Tuesday. “This is the first time Michael Jordan had the chance to watch Miller in person to sit down and meet with him.
“Both Miller and Scoot Henderson came back to Charlotte for second workouts, second meetings. I’m told Miller was better the second time around in that environment than he had been the first time.”
Now, it’s all the opposite. You can’t trust the color of shoes on draft day with all these opposing reports leaking everywhere.
