Report: Surprise contender joins the race for Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is building a home in Franklin, Tennessee, according to Jared Stillman Wednesday afternoon.

Franklin, Tennessee is a suburb of Nashville — the home of the Tennessee Titans. According to the same report, Rodgers is “open” to joining the Titans, who are already championship contenders. With Rodgers at the helm, they’ll automatically become favorites to not only win the AFC South, but the entire AFC as a whole in regards to Super Bowl contention.

Stillman said that some players inside the Packers organization believe that Rodgers already has one foot out the door. If reports are true, Rodgers’ foot is pointing toward Nashville.

That doesn’t mean Rodgers to Tennessee is a done deal — many NFL players have vacation homes in other states and cities. The Rodgers offseason saga remains wide open.

Contradicting to Stillman’s report, it was reported Sunday that some have seen Rodgers around the organization for a few extra days to plot out the team’s future following their divisional round loss last week, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

“I think some of the factors are the direction of the team and the organization, and how I feel like I fit in in the future,” Rodgers told the show. “Mentally, do I still have the passion, the competitiveness, the desire to keep playing? I think it’s a feeling, and you just kind of know when the offseason has started. When you’re a hyper-competitive individual, you also dream or think about what the fairy tale ending is. It doesn’t mean Super Bowl necessarily, but that’s a pretty damn good fairy tale.”

Rodgers was working directly with head coach Matt LaFleur and others to figure out what the future holds for everyone involved, leaving those in the organization with confidence moving forward that Rodgers will return for at least one more season.

One thing that Rodgers doesn’t want to be a part of next season? A rebuild. Good thing for Packers fans — if he comes back, the Packers would still be the title contender they’ve been over the last decade. He obviously sees potentially returning to Green Bay as a legitimate option; it’s where he knows he’ll have immediate success.

That doesn’t mean him staying in Green Bay is a done deal, either. He’s said publicly that any option regarding his future is on the table. 

“I’m still super competitive. I still know I can play at a high level,” Rodgers said. “So it’s gonna be a tough decision.”
