Report: Teddy Bridgewater receives interest from several NFL teams, strong offer from Lions
Free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could have a new NFL home soon, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Detroit Lions reportedly offered a strong contract amid several teams interested.
Bridgewater played for the Miami Dolphins last season as a backup to Tua Tagovailoa, but was inserted amid the latter’s concussions. However, Bridgewater also suffered a concussion and eventually a broken finger, which prevented him getting a shot in the Dolphins’ AFC Wild Card playoff game.
As far as where he goes next, Bridgewater is likely a backup. But he could reunite with a familiar face.
“Free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater has interest from several teams, including a strong contract offer from the Lions, per source,” Fowler wrote on Twitter. “Bridgewater hasn’t decided where he’s playing as he takes his time this offseason. Bridgewater can reunite w/ Dan Campbell from their New Orleans days.”
In five games last year (two starts), Bridgewater threw for 683 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He last started full time in 2021 with the Broncos (14 games). He had 3,052 yards, 18 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 66.9% completion percentage.
A former first round pick out of Louisville (2014), Bridgewater started his career with the Minnesota Vikings. But a devastating preseason knee injury in 2016 knocked him out for the season and changed the trajectory of his career.
He returned to Minnesota as a backup in 2017 and eventually went to the New York Jets. But that stint was short lived after they traded him prior to the 2018 season.
