Report: Zach Wilson, Miami Dolphins agree to one-year, $6 million deal

Zach Wilson will be playing for the Miami Dolphins this fall. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the former Denver Broncos quarterback has agreed to a one-year, $6 million, fully guaranteed contract that could grow to $10 million with Miami.
Wilson joined the Broncos in April 2024 after spending his first three NFL seasons with the New York Jets. He did not appear in the game during the 2024 season, as rookie quarterback Bo Nix played in all 17 games and helped the team reach the postseason.
The New York Jets selected Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He played in 34 games in New York and completed 57 percent of his passes for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions with a 12-21 record.
Zach Wilson praised Bo Nix before the 2024 season
In June, Wilson talked about how his experience will help the Broncos quarterback room. “I think [the experience] will help a lot,” Wilson told DenverBroncos.com in mid-June. “[I’m] just trying to take the good that came from all of that and kind of flush the bad and learn from the mistakes. Hopefully, at this point, I’ve seen a lot of different things in the league. It can throw a lot of different things at you, and hopefully I’ll be ready for those.”

“We just felt like, ‘Man, we’d love to work with this guy,'” Broncos head coach Sean Payton said on June 4. “It wasn’t too long ago we remembered grading him [as a prospect]. [We] felt the investment was worth it relative to his skill set and his talent.”
Zach Wilson did not win the starting role in Denver but was confident Nix could be very productive. ““I think he’s had a great camp. I told him I’m excited for him for this opportunity,” Willson said about Nix in August, per Pro Football Talk. “I really believe that they’re putting him in a good situation. I think Sean has done a phenomenal job and the guys that we get to hang out with, starting with [QBs coach] Davis [Webb] and then [offensive coordinator] Joe [Lombardi], and [senior offensive assistant] Pete [Carmichael], and then ‘Johnny Mo’ [pass game coordinator John Morton], you know we have a great offensive staff.”
Wilson joins a Dolphins team that features Tua Tagovailoa as the starting quarterback. Tyler Huntley was the Dolphins’ No. 2 QB last season but is set to become a free agent, meaning Wilson will likely be the team’s new backup quarterback.
