Reporters caught on live mic trashing Raiders, Gardner Minshew at press conference
Gardner Minshew is just barely good enough to be a starting quarterback in the National Football League. His play over the years has been good at times, but not so good at others. He didn’t do that great in Week 1 against the LA Chargers, completing 25 of 33 passes for 257 yards, while tossing in one touchdown and one interception.
And at Wednesday’s press conference, one of the Raiders reporters simply doesn’t have any faith in Minshew and going up against the Ravens on Sunday.
Las Vegas has to travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens this weekend in M&T Bank Stadium. In 2023, the franchise was 6-3 at home.
The Raiders signed Minshew as a free agent this offseason. He played for the Colts last fall, filling in admirably when rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. In fact, he even earned his first Pro Bowl berth.

“And then with Gardner, you know, Gardner played well last year with the Colts,” Telesco said. “I mean, he was in the Pro Bowl, so obviously had a pretty good year. He’s always performed at a high level when he’s given that opportunity.”

More on Gardner Minshew and his career in the NFL
Gardner Minshew is one of those players that has certainly had a unique career arc, no question about it. He is a disciple of former Texas Tech/Washington State/MSU head coach Mike Leach. And surprisingly enough, Minshew has been the of the most successful in the NFL out of all the great college quarterbacks that played under Leach.
USA Today wrote an excellent article breaking down the Leach quarterbacks and how they fared in the NFL. Names such as Kliff Kingsbury, Graham Harrell, Taylor Potts, and others were all massive flops in the league, but Minshew has somehow managed to carve out a starting role for a couple of seasons.
That’s not to say he’ll be given a long leash with the franchise. Many were surprised when the Raiders decided to not draft in the 2024 NFL Draft and instead opted to bring in Minshew in the offseason.
Minshew has thrown for over 3,000 yards in two different seasons in the NFL. He’s also done that while getting sacked 33 and 34 times, respectively, in both seasons. Last season with the Colts was one of his best performances of his career. It certainly doesn’t hurt having Shane Steichen as your head coach. He’s one of the league’s best and brightest offensive minds.
