Rex Ryan on Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl hopes: 'Best opportunity since '95'
The Dallas Cowboys have won the NFC East and are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs, even potentially making it to the Super Bowl. It’s been a long time since that’s happened and former NFL head coach and current analyst Rex Ryan says that it’s the team’s best chance to make a Super Bowl run since 1995.
While speaking on Get Up, Ryan admitted that he thinks more highly of the Detroit Lions than he does of the Dallas Cowboys, even with the controversial game the two recently played. However, he did also agree that this is the best shot Dallas has had in nearly three decades.
“Well, I hope not because I think Detroit is gonna give them more than they think,” Rex Ryan said. “But, I’ll say this, it is the best chance. I totally agree with Stephen A. about the best opportunity since ’95.”
In particular, Rex Ryan emphasized how good the Cowboys have been at home and on the offensive side of the ball, making them formidable in the playoffs.
“Look, they score 50 times at home compared to 17 punts. So, they have three times the likelihood scoring than punting. That’s how good this offense has been, and at home, their defense is a monster at home.”
The Dallas Cowboys are one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. With five Super Bowl wins and three losses, only the New England Patriots have made the Super Bowl more often than Dallas. It’s only the Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers who have more wins than the Cowboys.

However, Dallas hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1995. Worse than that, the Cowboys haven’t even gotten past the divisional round of the playoffs since that 1995 season.
Former Cowboys coach praises Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb
Rex Ryan isn’t the only former coach praising the Dallas Cowboys. Even former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett had nothing but good things to say about the offense, led by quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
“What a combination and what a year for these guys,” Garrett said. “The best quarterback-receiver combination in the NFL showed up big-time today in Washington. … The Cowboys are ready for the playoffs.”
In the end, Dallas finished as the second seed in the NFC. The Cowboys will open the playoffs by hosting the Green Bay Packers, one of the Wild Card teams. That game will be on Sunday, January 14th. Assuming the Cowboys win, they’ll reach the divisional round for the eighth time since 1995. They’re 0-7 in the previous seven divisional games during that timespan.
