Rex Ryan passionately calls for Dallas Cowboys to hire Deion Sanders amid tumultuous 2024
Rex Ryan believes the writing is on the wall for Mike McCarthy in Dallas, and the Cowboys need to turn to Deion Sanders to return the franchise to their peak.
This past weekend’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back in McCarthy’s tenure, with players like Micah Parsons evaluating where the Cowboys go from here. Barring a miracle, it seems as if Dallas will go in a different direction this offseason, and Ryan believes Sanders should get the call.
“Mike McCarthy clearly knows he’s a dead man walking. He’s going to be out that door. … They’ve got to restart, but they’ve got to do something that — in my opinion, how are you going to fix it? Well, I look at a couple of teams. I look at the Lions, who’d they hire? One of their former players, Dan Campbell. How about the Houston Texans? One of their former players, DeMeco Ryans. … Deion Sanders might be in play here,” Ryan stated, via Get Up. “They need something, somebody that has the pride, in that damn organization. Being a Dallas Cowboy, the pride you take in it. And by the way, Deion, everywhere he’s been, he’s been kicking you know what.
“Jackson State, they were unbelievable when he was there. He takes Colorado, right now they’re 7-2. Nobody saw that coming, and they’re playing in the Big 12. I’m just saying. … Watch what happens. They need that. How are you going to get this kid (Micah Parsons) back on board? He’s going to have to respect whoever comes in that building. Not going to respect Deion Sanders? He’s twice the player you are. You know what, I coached Deion Sanders. Great teammate.”

Alas, Ryan makes an interesting point with former players returning to the franchise where they made their name. Sanders would certainly fit that bill, but he also played his college ball at Florida State, and they could have an opening this offseason, as well.
Time will tell what the Dallas Cowboys decide to do, and if they believe Deion Sanders is the right man for the job. The franchise is in dire need of a new voice regardless, and Coach Prime would certainly provide that. Whether it translates to wins in the NFL remains to be seen.
