Rhyne Howard hits OT buzzer beater to lift Team USA over Canada in 3x3 Olympic basketball
Team USA is roaring back in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball as the Americans just won their third straight game to shoot further up the overall standings.
This time, WNBA hooper Rhyne Howard came to the rescue in overtime. With the American team down one point vs. the Canadians after they had just scored a layup, Howard took the ball with just seconds left to go and launched a two-pointer, splashing it through the net to give USA the huge 18-17 win.

That victory moves the United States’ women to 3-3 total in pool play and 2-0 for the day after also scoring a win over France, which settles them in the middle of the standings, a minor miracle after the squad dropped their first three games and bottomed out. Now, they’ll have a chance to improve to 4-3 with their next game Saturday against China.
Friday, Team USA went with a bit of a former rivalry, as they have all tournament long, starting former Kentucky star Rhyne Howard and former Louisville guard (current TCU player) Hailey Van Lith, meanwhile, Dearica Hamby started alongside them to help lead the wins over France and Canada.

Racing in lane six, she had no trouble edging out her heat mates to qualify for the next round. Only two other sprinters posted 100m dash times quicker than Richardson’s in the first round. Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote D’Ivoire posted a 10.87, while Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price had a 10.92.
Richardson is being billed as one of the biggest stars of the Olympics, which start next month in Paris. However, she needed to make the team to step into and embrace that role. This time three years ago, she won the Trials, enchanting fans with her personality and style. But she saw that opportunity disappear when she tested positive for marijuana. She was suspended for four weeks. The suspension included the track competition at the Tokyo Olympics.
She pulled herself up from that devastating mistake and won last year’s world title. With the time she most recently ran, Richardson is considered the favorite to take gold over the Jamaican contenders.
