Richard Childress explains the keys to Kyle Busch and No. 8 team's success

Richard Childress made the fantastic decision to bring Kyle Busch to his team, and it’s worked out in spades for both sides.
In Busch’s first season at Richard Childress Racing, he’s elevated everyone around him. Busch has already matched the win total of Tyler Reddick from last season — the driver he replaced in the No. 8 Chevrolet — and there seems to be more on the way with Busch’s talent.
After the two-time NASCAR champion captured victory at Gateway, Childress waxed poetic about Busch, explaining how thrilled he is to have him at RCR.
“It’s awesome just to see the great work that everybody here at RCR is doing,” prefaced Childress, via SiriusXM NASCAR. “To make it possible to go out and win a race. We won the race, it was disappointing to see what happened with Austin [Dillon] there, getting taken out by a car that wasn’t real happy with him. But those things will happen.
“To win the race, have Kyle Busch in our car, is amazing right now. We’re all just thrilled.”
It’s been the work of Busch with crew chief Randall Burnett that’s set the sport on fire, as it’s evident the duo is working wonders together. Following their third victory, and Burnett’s sixth over the last two seasons, Childress elaborated on why he believes the duo is working so great together.

“I think the biggest thing is respect,” answered Childress. “We had that before with several other drivers. Once that crew chief and the driver gain a respect of each other, it just seems like it just clicks right off. That’s the way both of them were. Kyle knew that Randall had won three races last year, and was coming into a team that he felt he could win with. Knowing the kind of driver Kyle is, Randall and that whole team were just thrilled. When I asked them about Kyle, ‘Yes sir, bring him on.’ So they were thrilled.
“Everybody is pretty well on-go right now. We’re looking forward to just getting better the second half of the season.”
While many wondered if Busch would work out at Richard Childress Racing, it’s more than evident it’s been a rousing success thus far, as three more trophies have been added to the shop.
Now it remains to be seen if Kyle Busch can capture his third championship in 2023, but it would work wonders for Richard Childress Racing if he can do so. At the moment, he may be the favorite.
