Tonight three drivers will enter the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Of course, The King, Richard Petty is in attendance and in style. Since he started racing, the No. 43 has become a brand, a symbol, of Petty’s greatness. He has it incorporated in his wardrobe for tonight.
During the NASCAR Awards last year we saw Richard Petty with a custom-lined jacket. It looks like he has brought that design to his Hall of Fame outfit and it couldn’t look any better.
With matching bolo tie, cowboy hat, and belt buckle, – there is no one in Charlotte who looks better than The King tonight in his custom Petty blue No. 43 vest. His son Kyle Petty flashed some of his style as well with a very wild-looking tie to go with his subtly plaid patterned suit.
The attention to detail is impeccable. Petty’s belt features his initials on the end. The belt also includes small medallions all the way around for each of his seven Cup Series championships. You can see the 1979 marker in the photo above.
All of the NASCAR Hall of Fame members get identical jackets. Leave it to Richard Petty to make himself stick out from the crowd. Also, notice he is rocking the Legacy Motor Club shirt underneath. He remains an ambassador for the organization.
Tonight is all about Carl Edwards, Ricky Rudd, and Ralph Moody. Those three icons of the sport will be immortalized in the Hall of Fame at the ceremony this evening. It will be a fun night honoring these three men and NASCAR itself.

Richard Petty remains an icon
While Richard Petty is no longer a team owner and his name does not grace a Cup Series organization, he is still an important figure. An icon. There are few drivers alive that have as much brand awareness and star power as The King.
Even if you weren’t alive to watch him race like this writer, his impact and importance to the sport is obvious. He has an aura about him and if you ever see him at the race track there is usually a small to large crowd following along for photos and autographs as if he is still winning races and championships.
Petty does a great job as Legacy Motor Club ambassador. The organization needs to get themselves to a competitive level, though. There have been issues with speed in the last couple of years since the team launched.
It’s awesome to see Richard Petty enjoying himself and having a good time. He is one of the few living connections that we have to the beginning of NASCAR. The Petty family has been around since the start and being able to have them be such an integral part of the sport today is great to see.
