Richard Sherman continues to hammer on Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb. But on Wednesday, the former All Pro listed caveats with his criticism.
Yes, he still thinks Lamb is “overrated.” But he’s not overrated in the general sense, but specificially as a No. 1 wideout on any NFL team. There’s good, Sherman explained to co-host Skip Bayless on Undisputed. Then there’s elite.
“If you think he’s a bonafide, line up out there at No. 1, then yeah, that’s overrated,” Sherman said of CeeDee Lamb. “So you’re saying he’s in a conversation with Justin Jefferson, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, Ja’Marr Chase, Stefon Diggs, A.J Brown, Cooper Kupp, Deebo Samuel, Terry McLaurin.”
Bayless says yes, he’d put Lamb alongside the other guys, who obviously are elite receivers. That’s when Sherman offers another layer of players in regards to Lamb.
“The conversation he’s in is with guys like Jaylen Waddle, like Garrett Wilson, Tyler Lockett, Tee Higgins, Brandon Aiyuk, Chris Godwin … Those are really good guys. I’m not saying they’re bad players. I’m saying that’s the caliber of receivers that we’re talking about. … Those are really good receivers in the National Football League. I’m not saying he’s a bad receiver, but I’m saying if you had Amari Cooper, if you’ve never got rid of … Amari Cooper, what would this team look like?
“They would look really good. (CeeDee Lamb) would probably have a 1,500 yards this season. Amari would have 1500 because you can’t focus on either of them. But when you only have one of them, when you get rid of Amari Cooper, for whatever reason (money). I guarantee you would rather have him right now because right now he’s doing great in Cleveland. … But there are only 10 bonafide ones in this league.”

It all makes sense. CeeDee Lamb has been so consistent this season, save for an abberation of a game against the Jets. We’ll explain. In every game but one this fall, Lamb has caught four passes. However, he got 11 against the Jets in week two.

Lamb is irritated coming out of the 42-10 loss to the 49ers. Most Dallas players are. In post game, Lamb said he couldn’t define the Cowboys offensive identity. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said he spoke with Lamb about his frustrations once the team returned from San Francisco.
His receiving numbers are low. He’s had 35 passes thrown his way. That’s the worst start he’s had to a season in his four-year career.
It seems McCarthy has a different list of elite of receivers than Sherman. CeeDee Lamb is at the top of the list.
“CeeDee, trust me, no wants him to touch the ball more than I do,” McCarthy told reporters. (And) “CeeDee is an impact player, has been for us. I think all of those things are very fair questions, and we’re having the same conversations. At the end of the day too, we have to keep some balance in our offense. That is when we are at our best. Definitely, CeeDee is a premiere player. That’s how I view him. It’s our responsibility to make sure he has opportunities to make an impact plays.”
