Richard Sherman: Dak Prescott has done more than any elite QB but Patrick Mahomes

Skip Bayless and Richard Sherman enjoyed a spirited discussion Wednesday on Undisputed. It involved whether Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott should be put in the same sentence as Patrick Mahomes.

First, some background. If you’re not familiar with the dynamics of this particular sports talk fest, Bayless is a long-time fan of the Dallas Cowboys. But he’s no longer a fan of Prescott, the team’s quarterback. These days, seemingly every football household in the state of Texas ponders what to do with Prescott, especially after the Cowboys lost so badly at home to the Packers to open the playoffs. Does Prescott receive too much blame for the team’s playoff slip ups? Or not enough? There is no happy medium.

Count Sherman as a Prescott fan. Or he might just be a Bayless antagonist. If Skip loved Dak Prescott, then Sherman the contrarian would want to dump him. Put fellow host Keyshawn Johnson in that same camp.

But Sherman did say something outlandish, Wednesday, in regards to Dak Prescott.

“There’s not one quarterback in this league right now (who) is in the elite category that has done more outside of Patrick Mahomes,” Sherman said.

Super Bowl score: Patrick Mahomes 2, Dak Prescott 0

Now that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Mahomes, the 28-year-old Texan, is prepping for his fourth Super Bowl. He’s already won two Lombardi Trophies. His lone loss was to Tom Brady and the Bucs in February, 2021. Plus, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to six straight appearances in the AFC championship game. As a starter, he’s never known what it’s like not to play for a Super Bowl spot.

Then there’s Dak Prescott. The 30-year-old never has appeared in the NFC title game. Whereas Mahomes has won two Super Bowls, Prescott has won two playoff games (in seven appearances.)

But Bayless has a theory.

Is it just Cowboys hate? Bayless thinks so

Bayless explained to his audience that Sherman and Johnson are playing an old-fashioned game of opposite. If Bayless loved Dak Prescott, then Sherman and Johnson would find fault. Plus, there’s some hate for the silver star.

“These two don’t like the Dallas Cowboys,” Bayless said. “So they want a quarterback they know will fail when the lights are brightest. So that they know they don’t come in here to take me after the Cowboys march to the NFC Championship game. … We don’t have a real playoff quarterback. That’s the truth.”

Sherman called Bayless “delusional.” The former All-Pro DB said Bayless “doesn’t realize he has an All Pro quarterback. He doesn’t realize that every other quarterback this year has folded in the bright lights. Yeah, Lamar (Jackson) lost this year. Josh Allen lost this year. Everybody lost this year except for Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy.”

Dak Prescott did make the Pro Bowl for the third time. But he’s skipping the festivities as he awaits the first of his first child. Count on this discussion to continue throughout the coming months. It will be a long off season for Cowboy lovers.
