Don’t look now, but we might have more Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Carson Hocevar beef late at Mexico City. Hocevar was spun out and stuck in Turn 14 with his car perpendicular to traffic. NASCAR waited as long as they could for him to refire his Chevy, but ultimately threw the caution flag.

Lap 66 brought out the most consequential caution flag of the entire race in Mexico City. Carson Hocevar has changed the race for many drivers who were not able to pit under the green flag. That includes leader Ty Gibbs.

Shane van Gisbergen is going to inherit the lead after all of this. But Ricky Stenhouse Jr. had to call out Hocevar for causing that caution.

Jeff Gluck of The Athletic reported what Stenhouse said about Hocevar. No love lost between these two NASCAR rivals.

“Ricky Stenhouse Jr. says Carson Hocevar brings out BS cautions all the time,” Gluck posted on Twitter/X. I will say, it definitely changes things.

Look, we know that Ricky Stenhouse Jr. doesn’t really like Carson Hocevar. But what was the 77 supposed to do in that position? Let his car roll backwards into oncoming race traffic to try and get refired, and then spin his car around as more cars come through and try to swerve around him?

Besides, Stenhouse was in a very similar position earlier in the race. He was in a better spot to get refired without traffic coming through and playing a factor. But there was a chance that the 47 car could have brought out the caution if NASCAR had seen things differently.

Mexico City started out with chaos

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Carson Hocevar aren’t the only drivers who have spun out. Ryan Truex has been beaten up throughout the race today. On Lap 7, multiple cars were hit like bowling pins by the No. 8 car of Kyle Busch.

Busch continues to have bad luck and mishaps this season. He qualified P11 for the race, and that was a really solid starting position. Unfortunately, his day was pretty much over before it began.

Kyle Larson, AJ Allmendinger, Justin Haley, Chase Briscoe, and Zane Smith were also involved in that Lap 7 incident. Larson has gotten back on track multiple laps down, but has run the fastest lap of the day to pick up that bonus point for the regular season championship. If that holds on, he will be tied for the most fastest laps on the season with three. Denny Hamlin and Michael McDowell also have three.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was furious after the race with Carson Hocevar. He was spun out late by the Spire Motorsports driver. He is going to pay him back at Pocono. Maybe even do more than just pay him back.
