Riley Herbst clowns Sam Mayer for 'Superman' celebration after Iowa Xfinity Series race

Late in the Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway, Riley Herbst and Sam Mayer made a little extra contact and it didn’t sit well with Herbst. The two NASCAR drivers would go on to finish 1-2 with Mayer coming out on top.
Both Sam Mayer and Riley Herbst survived the intense tire battle at Iowa. Drivers and crew chiefs were trying to figure these tires out throughout the afternoon. It went well for others while many drivers ended up in the wall due to blown right fronts.
Mayer had a flat left rear tire. However, it happened after the race when Herbst doored him on the cool-down lap.
Afterward, Herbst opened up about why he did what he did.
“The guy who won just aboslutely brooms us in [Turns] 1 and 2,” Herbst said. “So, that was frustrating. Then for him to door me down the straightaway before the Green-White-Checkered, I don’t know, that was a bit frustrating. But all-in-all it was fun to race with him on the Green-White-Checkered. I wish I could have wrapped the bottom through 1 and 2 a little bit better on that last run but I’m just most proud of that the speed’s back in the 98 car.”
Riley Herbst did take time to make fun of Mayer’s “Superman” celebration.
“I wouldn’t know if I owe him one,” Herbst continued. “He’s going to call me this week and apologize and then probably show me his Superman photo or whatever the Hell he does on top of his car.”

Riley Herbst wanted the win badly. He only has a single win in his Xfinity Series career. Sam Mayer is aiming to win an Xfinity Series championship this season, though. There is a lot on the line for both drivers every time they get out on the race track.
Next week is another short track at New Hampshire. Surely there won’t be more drama and fireworks between drivers.
Riley Herbst is going to try and bounce back quickly. A win for him would do a lot for his season. His teammate won the Xfinity championship last season and now the clock is starting to tick by for Herbst to get something done and quickly.
As for Sam Mayer, he is turning into quite the racer. From a road course specialist more or less to winning at Texas and Iowa in the same season. He now has six wins between last season and this one and there is still a lot of racing left to go.
