The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway was full of twists and turns. Riley Herbst kept it going even after the race. Herbst did not appreciate the way Mayer raced him late and let him know about it.

Sam Mayer was busy doing his cool-down lap, getting his plan ready for his celebration. It is the first time that Mayer picked up a win on a short track. Riley Herbst, who has a single career win from Las Vegas last season, got into his opponent after the race.

A quick bump and the left rear was taken out by Herbst. Mayer had to do his victory burnout with just three tires. He managed to do just fine.

Late in this video you can see Herbst come up to Mayer and cut his tire down with a short hit to the side.

Now, things were too intense between the two drivers. It seems that Riley Herbst got across the message that he wanted to send and Sam Mayer is just going to enjoy the win. Contact happens, drivers get the raw end of the deal, it’s not the end of the world.

But it is funny to see what Herbst had to say after the race. He did decide to take a small shot at Mayer for how he celebrates his victories.

Riley Herbst mocks Sam Mayer for ‘Superman’ celebration

So, the end of the race happens, Sam Mayer wins, and Riley Herbst is second. Then we see the extracurricular activity on the cool-down lap. It was a strange ending overall.

Afterward, Herbst opened up about why he did what he did.

“The guy who won just aboslutely brooms us in [Turns] 1 and 2,” Herbst said. “So, that was frustrating. Then for him to door me down the straightaway before the Green-White-Checkered, I don’t know, that was a bit frustrating. But all-in-all it was fun to race with him on the Green-White-Checkered. I wish I could have wrapped the bottom through 1 and 2 a little bit better on that last run but I’m just most proud of that the speed’s back in the 98 car.”

Riley Herbst also took time to make fun of Mayer’s “Superman” celebration.

“I wouldn’t know if I owe him one,” Herbst continued. “He’s going to call me this week and apologize and then probably show me his Superman photo or whatever the Hell he does on top of his car.”

Will we see this carry over to next week at New Hampshire?
