Rob Gronkowski calls out Aaron Rodgers for recent interview on future plans with Packers

Aaron Rodgers talked about his future plans and his plan to take time to make the right decision. Rob Gronkowski took issue with the Packers’ quarterback’s comments.

Rodgers only wants to come back to play in 2023 if he has a great shot to win a Super Bowl. But, he also mentioned playing at a high level and winning another MVP award.

That’s where Gronkowski called out Rodgers for speaking about his thought process regarding his career.

“I’m totally fine with everything he said, except one major part,” Gronkowski said on Up and Adams. “And that’s the ‘MVP again.’ It’s just that I think ‘I could win another Super Bowl,’ and that would have been totally fine. Bro, like why are you thinking MVP? Don’t you want Super Bowls? Like Super Bowls are I think five times greater than an MVP award.

“We all know that you won the MVP a few times now, but like, you know, everyone would know even more how many more Super Bowls you won than MVPs. So that’s why I’m just a little bit confused about that quote he just had. I mean, it should be Super Bowls. You should never be thinking the MVP when Super Bowls are twice . . . twice . . . better.”

In Rodgers’ defense, he did not exactly say an MVP award was the sole focus of his future in the NFL.

“Do I still think I can play?” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Of course. Of course. Can I play at a high level? Yeah, the highest. I think I can win MVP again, in the right situation.”

Rodgers finished the 2022 season with 3,695 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His 12 interceptions were the most since his first full season as a starter in 2008.

He led the Packers to a 9-8 record but the team did not make the playoffs after losing the final game of the season to the Detroit Lions.

A return to football would not necessarily mean a return to the Green Bay Packers. 

“If there’s a rebuild going on, I won’t be a part of it,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers then expanded on his mindset in that case.

“If they want to go younger and think Jordan (Love) is ready to go, then that might be the way they want to go,” Rodgers said. “If that’s the case and I still want to play then there’s only one option and that’s to play somewhere else.”
