The ongoing drama involving Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills could stem from a personal beef between the receiver and quarterback Josh Allen. That’s according to ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III.

Recently appearing on The Rich Eisen Show, Griffin said that the drama could date back to Buffalo’s playoff lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, calling it a “personal thing.”

“So I’ve talked with people close the situation. Really what it boils down to is in that last game against the Bengals, Diggs was the most targeted receiver in that game,” Griffin said.

“I think he had get 10 targets in that game. But when they were down 17, they had a 10-play drive that ended in a turnover on downs. And Diggs only got one ball thrown his way. So you would think that a player of his caliber with the relationship that he has with Josh Allen, in those moments, he would look to him more often. And that didn’t happen. I think that was something that why we saw Diggs hold his hands up looking at Josh on the sideline when they had the little tiff that was shown on TV.”

Of those 10 targets, Diggs came up with just four receptions for 35 yards. Buffalo lost the game 27-10. Just a week earlier in the Wild Card round against Miami, Diggs hauled in seven catches for 114 yards.

Other report indicates Diggs frustrated with his role

There could be multiple things bothering Diggs heading into 2023. Another report indicated that the receiver was frustrated with his role within the offense.

“Diggs’ frustration is with his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling, per a league source close to the Bills’ locker room,” Ben Volin of the Boston Globe wrote. “He was visibly agitated at Allen during the 27-10 playoff loss to the [Cincinnati] Bengals, stormed out of the locker room almost immediately after the game, and didn’t attend any voluntary workouts this offseason.”

By all accounts, Diggs did play a major role in Buffalo’s offense last season. The receiver hauled in 108 catches for 1,429 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection for the third time in his career.

Could one playoff loss — and lack of targets down the stretch against Cincinnati — really be bugging the receiver that much? It’s going to be interesting to see how Buffalo handles this situation moving forward.
