Robert Griffin III offers strong reaction to dirty hit that knocked Trevor Lawrence out of game vs. Texans
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III did not like the hit Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair put on Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence. On X, Griffin shared the video of the hit that took Lawrence out of the game. He also wrote that Al-Shaair’s hit on Lawrence was “dirty.”
“Prayers up for Trevor Lawrence,” Robert Griffin III wrote. “There is no place in the game of football for dirty hits like this one.”
The incident happened late in the second quarter when the Texans were up 6-0. Lawrence ran for a first down, and Al-Shaair hit the former Clemson Tigers QB as he slid down. Lawrence was down on the field for several minutes before eventually being taken off on a cart. The Jaguars ruled him out for the rest of the game, and Al-Shaair was ejected along with Jaguars quarterback Jarrian Jones who got into a fight with Al-Shaair after the hit.
As Al-Shaair was escorted off the field, he exchanged words with Jaguars offensive lineman Brandon Scherff. At halftime, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told Fox Sports that the play was “not representative of us.”

Last month, Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing the last two starts.
“He’s obviously done some really good things this week,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said late Friday morning, per the team’s official website. “I would say as of right now, ‘Yes. He will play.’ We’ll get through today, Friday, Saturday, but he’s had a good week.”
“I think anytime you get your starting quarterback back out there, that gives you a little energy and all of that,” Pederson added. “It’s a positive.”
