The Giants attacked their quarterback position from all angles this offseason. New York signed veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency, and then they brought in former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday evening.

It’s a fascinating move, as many believe Dart will have to be molded into a future starting quarterback. It has pundits split, and Robert Griffin III is airing on the side of caution. The former No. 2 overall pick doesn’t believe the Giants are making the right moves at the moment, and he took to X to share his thoughts on the matter.

“The New York Giants have no idea what they are doing at QB,” the former Heisman Trophy winner posted on X, following the franchise’s selection of Dart. “Signed Jameis Winston only to sign Russell Wilson to start over him and then drafted a Rookie QB who will get minimal reps in his redshirt year behind those 2. Lord have mercy.”

Alas, Griffin III doesn’t believe the Giants are doing the right thing, but New York certainly had conviction with their selection. The franchise didn’t simply select Dart, they traded up from the second round to secure him, giving up the 34th pick, a 2025 third-rounder and a future sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans for pick No. 25.

All in all, Dart put together a decorated career at Ole Miss after transferring from USC. He became the program’s all-time leader in passing yards, breaking Eli Manning’s previous record. In 2024, he led the nation with 10.8 pass yards per attempt while totaling 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Additionally, his numbers improved every year in Oxford under Lane Kiffin’s watch. He threw for 2,974 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first year in 2022 after transferring, and he took a leap forward with 3,364 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2023. That set the stage for his impressive 2024 campaign, and his draft stock took a leap, as well.

Now, it’s up to the Giants to not throw him into the fire, like they did with Daniel Jones during his rookie season. If Dart can sit and learn behind a Super Bowl-winning quarterback and a former top overall selection in the NFL Draft, perhaps there’s a bright future for him in New York.

Time will tell, and nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. Robert Griffin III knows that better than anyone, and he’s not shy about sharing his opinion, but we’ll see if it’s the right one moving forward.
