Robert Griffin open to NFL comeback with former team
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III says that he is open to a comeback with the team that originally drafted him. The Washington football team is currently down a quarterback after their starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, went down in week one. The Football Team has given no indication that Griffin is in play. Much less any quarterback at this time. But that didn’t stop the former rookie of the year from planting the seeds of a possible return.
Griffin on the possibility of playing again
“Yeah, I mean it could, to be honest. But, for me to go back to Washington…” Griffin said on The Adam Schefter Podcast, ” That would have to be something that coach Ron Rivera and the team would be open to.”
As stated previously Washington has given no indicators that they are in the market for another quarterback. The Football Team was victorious in the Thursday night game last week with Taylor Heinicke running the offense. He was 34 of 46 for 336 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Although that game was against a questionable defense in the New York Giants, Heinicke has not given Washington a reason to believe that he cannot man the show at least until Fitzpatrick is back.
Griffin continued on about his desire to suit up one more time for the Football Team.

“You never say never, is what I would say. Would I be open to it? Yeah,” he continued. “I would love to go back and be able to have that come full circle. But, am I begging for that or pleading for that? Nah … But, if your guy goes down, make the call.”
Griffin did not have a storybook ending in his time in Washington. In his rookie season, he captured the NFL’s Rookie of the Year award over the number one pick in the draft Andrew Luck. But his time to relish in that reward was short-lived as he suffered a knee injury in Washington’s playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. After that year, he struggled to stay on the field with injuries. And that inconsistency in playing time led to inconsistencies in the game. Griffin would play just four years in Washington followed by one year with the Cleveland Browns. His professional career was capped off with a three-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens as the backup to Lamar Jackson.
Washington has options, if they want
Robert Griffin would go to say that, “there’s a hunger in me that makes me want to continue to play.” And with Griffin opening the door for a come-back to Washington, the Football Team could have its choice between two former Heisman-winning, NFL Rookie of the Year quarterbacks in Griffin and former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton. Newton played multiple years under Washington’s current head coach Ron Rivera. So, the Football Team does have options; they just have to “make the call.”
