Robert Griffin III rips Jerry Jones, Cowboys, calls for fans to rebel
Wearing a Sean Taylor jersey and a black cowboy hat, Robert Griffin III appeared on Wednesday’s “Dan Patrick Show” and declared the Dallas Cowboys (3-5) the “biggest loser of the trade deadline.”
“I wouldn’t say I’m anti-Cowboy, I just like to live in reality,” Griffin said. “We all know who the biggest loser of the trade deadline was.”
The Cowboys, riding a three-game losing streak, made just one move ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, acquiring second-year receiver Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 seventh round pick from the Carolina Panthers (2-7) in exchange for a 2025 fourth round pick.
Dallas is giving Mingo, 23, a fresh start after an underwhelming start to his career in Carolina. Mingo hauled in 43 receptions for 418 yards last season and has just 12 catches for 121 yards nine games into the 2024 campaign. Mingo has yet to record his first career touchdown.

Among the 72 receivers with at least 50 receptions since the start of last season, Mingo is last in yards (539) and catch rate (49.5%) and 71st in yards per route run (0.75), via The 33rd Team. Mingo’s last catch, a one-yard gain, came in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons (6-3).

Griffin doesn’t believe the acquisition of Mingo signifies the Cowboys being “all-in” on the 2024 season, as team owner Jerry Jones said back in January. Instead, Griffin says, the move will further result in the Cowboys’ fanbase rebelling against them.
“For the Cowboys to come away with Jonathan Mingo,” Griffin said, “who I love Jonathan Mingo the player, was very high on him coming out and think that he can still be a great contributor in the NFL, but for them to give up a fourth round pick to get him when the Kansas City Chiefs gave up a fifth rounder to get seven-time 1,000-yard receiver DeAndre Hopkins, the Ravens gave up a fifth round pick to get Diontae Johnson, the Steelers gave up a fifth round pick to get Mike Williams.
“Now, everyone will say those guys are older, expiring contracts, but every single NFL executive that I talked to told me that it was a bad deal for the Cowboys to give up so much to get Jonathan Mingo. When we talked about the Cowboys in the offseason, it was hey, they’re all-in. I just don’t understand how they’re making these moves now that their quarterback is on injured reserve with Dak Prescott not being available, and they think that this move trading for Jonathan Mingo is gonna make their fanbase believe in what they’re doing. It’s not. It’s gonna make everybody rebel and continue to laugh at the Cowboys.”
