Roger Federer is a man of the people, spotted flying in economy class
Tennis legend Roger Federer is a man of the people, apparently, and decided to fly economy class.
Federer, known for his gentleman-like approach to the game of tennis and life in general, is one of the regulars on a flight to Johannesburg. Considered the GOAT of the sport, or at least in the conversation, Federer was all smiles when boarding the plane.
Don’t believe it? See below for yourself.
“Imagine you are in economy class and you see Roger Federer getting on the plane and sitting in the seat right behind you,” Luigi Gatto wrote on Twitter with a video of Federer. “A man experienced this while going to Johannesburg a few weeks ago!!! (IG/imvirag8).”
You have to wonder how many conversations he had with passengers about economy class, his tennis career or heck, anything. Is Federer the type of passenger to just sit back and be quiet or is he the chatty type?
Better hope your next European flight is with Federer, just not up front.
Roger Federer retires after 20-plus year career
Roger Federer ended his career as one of the greatest players in the history of tennis back in 2022. He finished his career with 20 grand slam titles, which was at one point, the most of all-time.
Federer’s two main rivals, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, are the other two GOATs of the modern era of tennis. Both Nadal and Djokovic have 22 grand slams each as both still play to this day.
Federer spent the most time at the top of the ATP Rankings (310 weeks) throughout his career and is a five-time ATP Player of the Year.

He also has an absurd career record of 1,251-275 and 103 career titles, which is second all-time behind Jimmy Connors (109).
Federer’s best surface was grass, especially at Wimbledon where he has eight tiles. That is the most titles at the prestigious tournament in the history of tennis.
After injuries towards the latter stages of his career, Federer had a career resurgence in 2017 at the Australian Open, where he defeated rival Nadal in five sets.
He also defeated Marin Cilic for his eighth and final Wimbledon title the same season. It continued into the 2018 Australian Open where he won his final major.
Despite not winning a 21st grand slam, Federer returned to the Wimbledon final in 2019, where he lost to Djokovic in an epic five-set match that contained the first ever tiebreak in the final set. Federer lost 13-12 in the final set amid the rule change.
The 41-year-old Federer was a marvel in the sport and a marvel amongst the people.
