Rome Odunze injury update: MRI results reveal extent of Bears WR's injury
Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze suffered an injury during the season opener against the Tennessee Titans and could miss some time. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Odunze suffered an MCL sprain and is considered week-to-week.
On Monday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced that Odunze would undergo an MRI on his knee. Odunze made his NFL debut on Sunday and caught just one pass for 11 yards in the Bears’ 24-17 victory over Tennessee.
“We will have to see where that is,” Eberflus told reporters per the Bears’ official website. “He’s getting an MRI today, and we will see where it goes from there … Hopefully he will be fine.”
The Bears selected Odunze No. 9 overall in this year’s draft, and he’s expected to be the top wide receiver for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Odunze joins the Bears after having a stellar career with the Washington Huskies where he was selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team twice and named a consensus All-American in 2023.

“I definitely had the mindset to be happy wherever I went, but in the back of my mind [I knew] the Bears visit went tremendously well,” Odunze said in April. “I came into this facility and the attitude and the effort that they put into my visit and into the conversations that we had was incredible. I knew when that phone call came in, it was from Illinois and that it was going to be the Bears, and I was super excited.”
Odunze also talked about playing with Williams, who played college ball at USC. “It’s super exciting to be a teammate of his and to be along this journey together,” Odunze said. “[It’s] something that’s special and something that hopefully when we’re done with our careers we’ll look back as the first moment we realized we were teammates.”
