Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs left Sunday’s playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles after a scary fall in the third quarter. The injury happened when Doubs attempted to catch a pass in the end zone and fell hard on his head. He was helped to the locker room after being down on the ground for a few minutes. The Packers announced that Doubs was being evaluated for a concussion.

Before the injury, Doubs caught two passes for 13 yards in the Wild Card matchup. He ended the 2024 regular season with 46 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.

If Doubs suffered a concussion on Sunday, it would be the second one he suffered this season. Doubs had his first concussion in late November during the game against the San Francisco 49ers. He returned to the lineup a few weeks later and was seen wearing the Guardian Cap in the game against the Seattle Seahawks in December.

“Better safe than sorry,” Doubs said after the Seahawks game, per Acme Packing Company. “I don’t want to make it a superstition where I have to wear it in spite of performance.”

Romeo Doubs suffered a concussion earlier this season

The Guardian Caps were first seen on NFL practice fields in 2020. More teams started using them each season, and according to the NFL, the Guardian Cap has reduced concussions by 52 percent.

“Physics say that an outer “soft” material of the proper density, stiffness and energy absorbing properties reduces the initial severity of the impact,” Guardian’s website says (per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). “The hard shell then has lower forces transmitted to it, and in turn conveys lower forces to the interior soft helmet padding and then lower forces to the head.”

Romeo Doubs has been a steady hand at the wide receiver position for the Packers. In three seasons, the Nevada alum has caught 147 passes for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns in 43 games.

“I think I have a really good feel for Rome and where he’s going to be at on his routes,” Packers QB Jordan Love said during training camp in July, per Sports Illustrated. “Rome’s the guy that I probably worked the most with in the offseason. … We have a great feel for each other. It’s easy when he’s running these routes and creating space and getting open.”
