Romeo Doubs update: Packers coach Matt LaFleur shares latest on WR’s status
The Green Bay Packers are getting back one of their top playmakers this weekend. Receiver Romeo Doubs will play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters on Friday.
Rob Demovsky passed along the news on Twitter Friday afternoon, sharing a quote from LaFleur about the decision.
“He’s done a nice job, he’s gone in and worked,” Matt LaFleur said, per Demovsky’s Twitter.
Romeo Doubs was suspended from last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams due to conduct detrimental to the team.
GM Brian Gutekunst released a statement after the decision was made to suspend Doubs.
“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” said Gutekunst. “His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner. Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.”
In four games this season, Doubs has 12 catches for 169 yards (14.1 yards per catch) and no scores. He was a fourth round pick by the team in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Nevada.
Last season, Doubs set career highs with 59 catches for 674 yards, eight touchdowns and 11.4 yards per catch.

Earlier this week, ESPN insider Adam Schefter provided details of what led to Romeo Doubs missing practice and ultimately being suspended ahead of the game against the Rams.
“I think this is a really interesting situation for a few reasons,” Schefter said. “He was there Wednesday and then didn’t show up to work Thursday or Friday. And the team goes out to L.A. on Saturday when they announce his one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
“… He wasn’t there and didn’t show up, and they took the step to suspend him. Now they said, ‘We look forward to welcoming him back this week,’ and he’ll be a part of the rotation. And look, they were missing [Christian] Watson, so they certainly needed Doubs. Didn’t have him yesterday. They were able to come through and win.”
Schefter added: “I’m not saying this is the reason there, but I do think, in speaking to some people this weekend, here’s what came up. It’s interesting, in today’s day and age in the world where we live in, there’s so much discussion about targets and how many targets each receiver gets and fancy football production with fans sounding off. And let’s also remember how much money is going to wide receivers, so that when there are certain wide receivers that don’t get their targets, they know that that could be costing them money. And everybody reacts differently. And obviously Romeo Doubs, for whatever reason, decided to stay away for a couple of days. I don’t know that he was particularly thrilled with the number of passes that went his way.”
