Russell Wilson injury update: Mike Tomlin addresses Steelers' QB practice plan
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shared some big news about quarterback Russell Wilson and his injury status. Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Tomlin said that Wilson is scheduled to be a full participant in practice on Wednesday and will get reps with the second-team offense.
“We’re in a little bit different place as I stand here today with Russ,” Tomlin said, per Pro Football Talk. “Tomorrow will be the first Wednesday that he’ll be a scheduled full participant, we’ll see where that leads us. First, we’ll see if he’s, obviously, able to pull it off and get through the session. And if he does, what is the quality of that work look like? The ability to protect himself, etc. — some of the conversations that we’ve been having, but having more in a hypothetical way. He’s at the point of health now where we can work on a Wednesday without restrictions. And so, we’ll do so.”
Tomlin added: “[Wilson will] get reps with the second unit as to not disrupt Justin’s preparation. And then we’ll see where all of that leads us as we push through the week..”
Wilson has yet to play a game this year as he’s been dealing with a calf injury. Justin Fields has been the starting QB this year and has led the Steelers to a 3-2 record. Through five games, Fields completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 961 yards, five touchdowns and one interception with a 97.1 passer rating. Fields also rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns.

Russell Wilson talks about his injury before the season began
Before the season began, Wilson talked about getting ready to play while dealing with his calf injury. “I just felt a little tight (on Thursday),” Wilson said before the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, per Steelers.com. “I wanted to be smart about it. Obviously, we play the game on Sunday, I’m hoping I get to be in it. Just trying to try and get ready to go.
“I’m trying to get my body ready to go and rock and roll. So, we’re doing everything we can. I just tried to focus on the throws (in practice). Really didn’t try to do too much. I tried to be smart, knowing that we have it all today and tomorrow. And then obviously, Sunday morning.”
