Russell Wilson, Justin Fields team up to treat Steelers offensive line to steak dinner
There’s a certain bonding that goes down when the quarterback picks up a hefty check for a meal for his offensive linemen. With the Steelers, both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields picked up the meal.
The big dinner is a weekly thing for the Steelers line. If you want to stay disciplined and in unison on the field, break some bread off of it. It’s nice when the quarterbacks drop by and pay for the steaks.
“Everybody’s been working,” Wilson told reporters this week as to why everyone went to dinner. “It’s not just about me, it’s about them, it’s about us all together. It’s been a lot of fun. (And) it’s been a cool experience so far. We are just putting the work in, staying focused and doing everything we can to stay successful.”
The group gathered at a downtown Pittsburgh steak house. The steaks there start at about $55 and then go up, plus sides. Of course, there’s dessert. The guys burn off enough calories at practice. This was a special occasion.
Steelers lineman Spencer Anderson didn’t say how much the quarterbacks spent, but “It was a lot.”
Then Steelers offensive tackle Dan Moore added: “We offensive linemen, you know, we got to eat, so they took us out, wined and dined us a little bit.”
Moore then described the two Steelers quarterbacks: “They each have their own dynamic, but they definitely each bring energy in their own ways, being leaders on the field and off. Even outside of playing, getting guys together and doing things together. You can definitely feel those guys for sure.”

Indiana QB set to play vs. Michigan State
Pittsburgh will start over at quarterback this season. Either Wilson or Fields will be the starter. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Wilson, the 36-year-old with a Super Bowl win and nine Pro Bowls on his resume, will get the first crack at QB1. But don’t count out Fields.
The Steelers signed Wilson after the Broncos released him in March. Then they traded for Fields, the Bears first-round pick in 2021. Fields started for Chicago the past three years. But he became expendable when the Bears decided to select Caleb Williams with the top pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh’s first-rounder in 2022 and a two-year starter, now is with the Eagles.
OTAs started last week, with the Steelers getting to be on the field with both quarterbacks for the first time. It’s also been a time for both quarterbacks to get to know their new Steelers teammates.
“It’s been cool. These guys are so focused,” Wilson told reporters. “They work their butts off in the weight room, on the field, in the film room. Just to be able to share life experiences with one another as much as we can. It’s been hectic, it’s been busy. The more we spend time together, the better. It was a good dinner for sure.”
